Today FM's Shave or Dye, in Support of The Irish Cancer Society
One of the biggest struggles facing Irish charities today is how to make their campaign the best, the most original, the most memorable. But since 2009 there has been one campaign that has ticked all the boxes. It’s as creative as it is successful: It’s Shave or Dye.
Shave or Dye sees hundreds of people throughout Ireland shave off their locks, or dye their hair, in a show of support for people undergoing cancer treatments. Each participant gets their friends and family to sponsor their efforts and this money is then passed along to The Irish Cancer Society.
The Irish Cancer Society has been at the heart of cancer research in Ireland since 1963 and through Shave or Dye alone they have raised over €6 million. These funds go towards information and support services for Irish people affected by cancer, with the remainder given to cancer research. The success of campaigns like Shave or Dye allow the charities behind them to make a huge difference, just last year Irish Cancer Society invested more than €3.3 million in cancer research.
The basis of this campaign’s success lies with Today FM, whose staff and presenters dedicate their time, talents and heads to Shave or Dye every year. Now in their fifth year Shave or Dye are determined to not only support ICS, but to break world records. For the 2014 Shave or Dye, Today FM are attempting to achieve the world record for ‘The Most Heads Shaved Simultaneously’. The current record stands at 77 - so they can (and most likely will) do it!
Shave or Dye takes place Friday 21st February at The Round Room in the Mansion House in Dublin.
