How Mobile Applications Are Improving Our Health

Is it possible that our future health can be determined by a mobile phone? The answer is yes according to three innovative organisations; PEEK, OralEye and Doctor Mole.

Peek Vision

Peek Vision enables comprehensive eye examinations to be completed on a mobile device anywhere in the world. 285 million people have a visual impairment worldwide and 80% of blindness is preventable. Peek Vision doesn’t aim to be a “good enough” alternative to other testing methods. Peek Vision is a product that is suitable for diagnosis in any setting and has undergone rigorous testing in a range of locations including; Kenya, Scotland and the Antarctic.

OralEye

OralEye is reimagining the way that people manage their dental care. By taking six photographs, users can get remote feedback from experienced dentists. The app also enables users to keep track of their dental records and to book appointments. With oral cancer rates on the rise, it’s ground breaking that taking a photograph on a mobile phone can have potentially lifesaving consequences.

Doctor Mole

Doctor Mole enables people to identify if skin moles are cancerous. Users take a photograph of a mole and the Doctor Mole platform provides real time analysis of asymmetry, boarder, colour and diameter. Doctor Mole also enables users to track the evolutionary changes of a mole. Skin cancer is one of the most prevalent forms of cancer so it’s timely that there is a way for the average person to gain insight into potentially problematic moles.

It is becoming increasingly clear that mobile is a powerful force when it comes to creating positive change in the world. Whether it’s donating to a cause you believe in or using an innovative app for monitoring your health; the future is bright for social change powered by a mobile phone.
